Mimi SUNNERSTAM, violoncelle

Born in Sweden into a musical family, Mimi started playing the cello at the age of 6. By the age of 9, she was touring with her family, giving concerts throughout Sweden.

Between 1983-87 Mimi studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, finishing with a Master's degree. A scholarship enabled her to continue her studies at the Musical Academy in Prague, HAMU (with Saša Vectomov, Miroslav Petráš and the Smetana string quartet).
In 1999 she was awarded a scholarship from the Swedish Arts Council to study at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music in California.
For many years she toured throughout the world with different chamber orchestras. She preformed in Lincoln center N.Y. Musikverein in Vienna, Royal palace of king Sihanouk, Cambodia and other prestigious places.

In 2000 Mimi joined the Octuor de Violoncelles, en contemporary cello octet who premiered and toured world wide with pieces by Gubaidulina, Berio, Saariaho, Pärt, Dusapin, Finzi et al.

2013 she was performing in Paris as a soloist in Friedrich Guldas unusual cello concerto written for amplified cello, big band and rhythm section.concerto in Paris, Salle Pleyel and the Cité de la Musique.

During her classical career she continued to work with non classical genres.
Over the years Mimi has recorded and preformed with various artists such as the Pink Martini, Portuguese singer Bévinda, Asa from Nigeria and many others. Several French film music composers frequently asks Mimi for traditional and improvisation sessions.

Mimi returns to her native Sweden on a regular basis. In the past year she spent much of her time working with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic with conducters like Esa-Pekka Salonen, Herbert Blomstedt, David Zinman.

She has been colaborating with Kadosch on several occasions/productions since 15 years.
